Take a stroll down Franklin Avenue: judging by the number
of eateries, new, established and soon to open, it may be on the way to becoming the latest Brooklyn restaurant row. Here’s a sampling of what’s on offer:

Delivery and catering.

A bright neon sign catches your eye, otherwise you might walk right by this small West Indian takeout with just a few seats for customers waiting for orders or those who prefer to eat in.

Start with a bowlful of imagination, add a generous dash of flair and a heady mix of seasonings, and for one afternoon a chic corner of Brooklyn became a Caribbean kitchen.

It was "Iron Chef," Island style, as six young aspiring chefs from New York culinary schools competed for the grand prize –an internship at Walkerswood Caribbean Foods.

Each contestant submitted an original recipe for a Caribbean –style entrée using Walkerswood products. The winner, Sharada Winston, of Carroll Gardens, took the prize with her Escoveitch Jumbo Shrimp, using the Escoveitch Pickle sauce. This recipe can be found here.
